Chances are likely that someone you know (young or old) is or was abused physically, emotionally, sexually or neglected while a child. Nationally, in 200l alone, "about l million cases reported to child protective services were confirmed as child abuse or neglect," according to Diane M. Yoakam RN, MSN, CEN www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/h1/sp/chil/child.jsp
Yoakam further states: "About 80% of the perpetrators of the child abuse are parents. Another l0% of the perpetrators are relatives of the children and almost 2% were people serving as caregivers."
